Vicky, I am watching One America News Plus network, and the host in the news show (I don’t know his name)asking why President Trump did not receive a LEADERSHIP award from the Department of Defense, even though both Biden and Clinton received one! I don’t think the host knows what “Leadership” is, and what it’s all about. Vicky can you please educate us on what these “Leadership training” things are all about so that regular people will know? NO body I talk to knows what they are, and I see their eyes glaze over when I try to explain it. Anyway, I want to let this TV host, whoever he is, know that I’m glad President Trump did not receive one, and also= WHY is Dept of Defense awarding them?? of ALL organizations in the USA, WHY Department of Defense?? for a TQM training??!

Kristin, I would say you are right – TQM – or as it was called for the military in the early 2000s Six Sigma. Six Sigma was GE’s TQM training for military efficiency processes. I can’t say that for sure, but that’s where I’d put my money.
What happened was civil-military integration. That was predicated on the idea of “big power war” between nation states was over. They needed to re-purpose military research and the defense industrial base toward “war in the context of everything else” toward the idea of “prevention of war”. In other words, defense contractors turned toward dual-use technology which in practice meant weaponizing our infrastructure and the systems of government to build the total surveillance state. Presumably, the leadership award was created to recognize leaders in the integration through dual use technologies. Do you remember the commercials in 1990s – Army of One? I believe that referred to the concept of the Super Soldier – Soldier superempowered through technology. Of course the civilian agencies partnered with the Military to build the police state.
